My name is August. I write about places — the quiet ones, the working neighbourhoods, the hole-in-the-wall over the headline sight. Some of them I have travelled to. Some are still on a list I keep of somewheres I want to go, and the wanting turns out to be its own kind of writing.
I also write essays, the slower kind. Why certain rooms make people honest. The distance between what a person says they will do and what they actually do. What a building holds, and how, and what that asks of the people who pass through it.
